“A young girl spends the evening alone at home. She decides to have some sweet solo pleasure session, but not everything goes according to plan.” This is the kind of experience most of us can relate to, and the premise that inspired Renata Gasiorowska to create the animated short that takes an honest, entertaining and unconventional look at female masturbation.  Her name is Renata Gasiorowska, she is a Polish director, she graduated from the National Film School in Łodz, and in 2016 she made “Pussy” (“Cipka” as per its original title). Created with a somewhat limited budget, which gives it a strongly minimalistic visual signature, this short film makes a big impact thanks to a compelling concept: offering a lighthearted and realistic account of female masturbation, with a strong sense of humour and a dash of fantasy, halfway between entertainment and education. Shown at the prestigious Sundance festival, it continues to gain momentum a few years on as a rare object, one that normalises a practice that is still too often approached from a provocative perspective.
